Principal trumpet

Currently playing as the principal trumpet of Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra and prizes winner of multiple international competitions, Xiang Guo is known as one of the most talented Chinese trumpet virtuoso. He started his trumpet career when he was 10 years old with Dongsheng Chang. After studying with Prof. Guang Zhu at the Central Conservatory of Music in China. He has studied with Prof. Pasi Pirinen at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki and at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München with Prof. Hannes Läubin, Thomas Kiechle and Yosemeh Adjei.

After winning the 3rd prize winner of the “Città di Porcia” Trumpet competition in Italy in 2018. In 2022 He won the Special Prize in the 7th “Maurice André” Trumpet Competition Paris and 2nd prize of the “KesselBLECH” International Brass Competition Stuttgart. Besides, he was 1st prize winner of the 26th “Trumpet Talents” Tallinn International Trumpet Competition 2015 and 3rd prize of the Lieksa International Trumpet Competition Finland in 2012 as the youngest participant. In 2019 he won the 2nd Prize of the Jan Koetsier Brass ensemble competition in Munich as a member of Gast Quintet.

Xiang Guo is actively performing in Europe, Asia and the U.S. He has been invited as a soloist, with chamber group or in the orchestra by music festivals as Mozart Festival Würzburg, Bach Festival Aschaffenburg in Germany, Baltic Sea festival, Aurora festival in Sweden, Lieksa Brass Week and Kesä Virrat Soi in Finland. He is also a member of the Helten Brass Ensemble, Gest concert master of Töölö Brass orchestra, and was selected as a member of Pacific Music Festival Orchestra in Japan in 2017 and 2018.

Before he became the principal trumpet of Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra in 2022, he was playing as the principal trumpet of the Finnish National Opera from 2015-2017 and in 2017 he got the permanent trumpet position. Xiang Guo has been invited and performed as a guest player with Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Helsink Philharmonic Orchestra, Finnish Baroque Orchestra, Lahti Symphony Orchestra, Turku Philharmonia, Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestre philharmonique de Radio France and Münchner Bach Orchester, etc. He has worked with world famous conductors such as Valery Gergiev, Vasily Petrenko, Alan Gilbert, Sakari Oramo, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Klaus Mäkelä, Santtu-Matias Rouvali, Susanna Mälkki and Hannu Lintu.
