Joonas Kokkonen (1921–1996): Interludes from The Last Temptations
Esa-Pekka Salonen (b. 1958): Nyx
Richard Strauss (1864–1949): Don Quixote op. 35
Chief conductor Santtu-Matias Rouvali kicks off our concert series celebrating the 100th birthday of composer Joonas Kokkonen. Kokkonen’s Last Temptations is one of the central Finnish operas. Salonen’s Nyx is a nocturnal piece that is named after the goddess of night. The featured cellist in Strauss’s Don Quixote is Tampere Philharmonic’s own Joona Pulkkinen.
If the Finnish coronavirus restrictions regarding events and concerts continue in Fall 2021, The Tampere Philharmonic will play two concerts per night (6 pm and 8 pm) with a modified programme to accommodate reduced audience capacity and safety distance requirements. The alternative concert programme for this concert is:
Maurice Ravel (1875–1937): Pavane
Georges Bizet (1838–1875): Symphony no. 1 C major
Ravel: Le Tombeau de Couperin
