Johann Hummel (1778–1837): Piano Concerto no. 2, A minor, op. 85
Franz Schubert (1797–1828): Symphony no. 3, D major, D 200
Hannu Lintu, conductor
Christian Ihle Hadland, piano
Beethoven’s influence can be heard in each piece performed even though his music is not featured in this concert programme led by former chief conductor Hannu Lintu. Schubert was Beethoven’s disciple, Hummel his contemporary rival. Hummel’s Second Piano Concerto is an underrated masterpiece that finds a worthy interpreter in Christian Ihle Hadland.
