Risto Rajakorpi

Principal Cello

Risto Rajakorpi began his cello studies with Lauri Voipio and Pauli Heikkinen, continued at the Sibelius Academy in Arto Noras’s class, and later at the Robert Schumann Hochschule in Düsseldorf under Johannes Goritzki. He remained in Germany for more than 30 years and, from 1997 onward, served as the second solo cellist of the Dortmund Philharmonic, touring widely as a chamber and orchestral musician, especially throughout Germany. His solo appearances were mainly with his own orchestra.

What draws him to music is its endless diversity, which he enjoys exploring with curiosity both alone and with others. Today his favourite composers might include Sibelius, Debussy and Ravel but ask again tomorrow, and the answer could be something entirely different.
