Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra: Echoes of Kalevala
Echoes of Kalevala is an audiovisual concert experience celebrating the epic’s 190th anniversary. The performance blends the ancient Finno-Ugric tradition of rune singing with echoes of pop music.
Dimas Ruiz Santos, conductor
Ida Elina, kantele
The songs, composed and written by kantele artist Ida Elina and inspired by Finland’s national epic, the Kalevala, bring the legacy of rune singers to life in a new way. This unique concert evening features visual elements drawn from the short film Under the Northern Skies. Echoes of the Kalevala premiered at Hyvinkääsali on February 22, and the Tampere concert on October 3 will mark the premiere of the orchestral arrangement, created by Erno Tiittanen.
