Afternoon of Fauns: Viennese Vibes

12.4.2026

15.00 - 17.00

Tampere-talo Oy, Yliopistonkatu 55, 33100 Tampere

Gassenhauer is German for a song hummed in the streets; Beethoven’s trio is rich in catchy tunes. The quartet by the Viennese late-Romantic composer Erich Wolfgang Korngold is an ode for carefree joy.

Erich Wolfgang Korngold: String Quartet No. 2, Op. 26

FINESTre: Kati Tuominen-Heroja and Heidi Kuula, violin, Heili Hannikainen, viola and Elina Rouvali, cello

Ludwig van Beethoven: Trio in B-flat major, Op. 11, "Gassenhauer"

Mark Reding, clarinet, Eri Ikeda, bassoon and Hanna-Leena Savolainen, piano

Eric Ewazen: Trio for Trumpet, Violin and Piano

Xiang Guo, trumpet, Maria Garcia Escudero, violin and Jouko Laivuori, piano

Austrian composer Erich Wolfgang Korngold laid the foundations of the Hollywood sound in the 1930s. Shortly before leaving Europe, he composed his second String Quartet – a playful, spirited work whose unapologetic simplicity captures the very essence of the Viennese lifestyle. American composer Eric Ewazen combines accessible harmonies with classical forms. His Trio for trumpet, violin, and piano is among his best-known works.

The concert is hosted by composer Minna Leinonen. The concert lasts about 2 hours including an intermission.
