Juha Kleemola
Juha Kleemola comes from Tornio, where he first studied the violin before switching to the double bass. His most important teacher at the local music institute was Hannu Murto, who encouraged him to move to Oulu and study at the Madetoja Music High School. After completing his non-military service with the Oulu Symphony, Juha continued his studies at the Sibelius Academy under Panu Pärssinen. He spent an exchange year in Berlin, studying at the UdK with Michael Wolf, and has also taken part in masterclasses with Janne Saksala. Kleemola has been successful in string competitions in northern Finland and has appeared as a soloist with, among others, the Kemi City Orchestra and Vivo. Before joining the Tampere Philharmonic, he worked as co-principal double bass with the Kymi Sinfonietta. Juha Kleemola enjoys playing chamber music and contemporary music, and he teaches part‑time at Tampere University of Applied Sciences. He spends his free time travelling and being with his family. He also enjoys cycling, skiing and swimming.
