Reetta Näätänen
Reetta Näätänen graduated with a Master of Music degree from the Sibelius Academy in 2003, studying in Harri Mäki’s clarinet class. She also pursued studies in numerous masterclasses and spent an exchange year at the Hokkaido University of Education in Japan.
Näätänen began her professional career with the Tampere Philharmonic in 2001 and is also an active member of the TampereRaw ensemble. Various chamber music ensembles have accompanied her orchestral work throughout her career.
Näätänen holds a second degree in East Asian Studies (BA, University of Helsinki) and is a doctoral researcher at the Sibelius Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki (2022–). She is particularly interested in representations of foreign cultures in Western contemporary art music, as well as the ethical responsibilities of performers and composers when presenting multicultural works.
When time allows between her dissertation and orchestral duties, Reetta can often be found at the climbing wall.
