Open House to Orchestra: Filharmonia Day on 25 April invites everyone to experience the energy of music

Tampere Filharmonia invites all music lovers to enjoy an experiential Filharmonia Day at Tampere Hall on Saturday, 25 April, from 11 am to 3 pm. The theme of this free event day is “energy from music,” and the programme offers plenty to do for the whole family.

Chief Conductor and Artistic Director Matthew Halls and the musicians of the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra (TPO) warmly welcome all music enthusiasts to visit their home venue, Tampere Hall.

Meeting the musicians, backstage tours and an audition simulator

The open day of TPO makes a long-awaited return — now more diverse than before. Inspired by the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, Filharmonia Day offers audiences a unique glimpse behind the scenes of the orchestra and invites visitors to experience the power of music in many ways.

Visitors can meet the musicians, explore instruments up close, and get a look at the orchestra’s operations and everyday life during guided tours.

In the audition simulator, the audience can follow a musician’s job audition where only the sound matters. The experience allows visitors to sense the atmosphere of a real audition from the selector’s point of view.

Throughout the day, there will also be a wheel of fortune, special ticket offers for the orchestra’s spring and autumn concerts, and special activities for children.

The day culminates in a free concert at 1 pm

The highlight of the event day is TPO’s concert at 13:00 in Tampere Hall’s Main Auditorium, conducted by Matthew Halls. The programme includes:

  • the first movement of Antonín Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9 “From the New World”
  • John Adams’ Chairman Dances (Foxtrot for Orchestra)
  • Jean Sibelius’ Valse triste
  • John Williams’ Flying Theme from the movie E.T.

The mini-concert lasts approximately 45 minutes. Admission is free, and the performance is ideal for the whole family.

Start the day with a musical brunch at 10 am

If you wish to start your day with good food accompanied by good music, the delicious Faun Brunch is the perfect choice. The brunch buffet starts at 10 am, and TPO’s chamber ensembles will make the moment even more delightful by performing during the event. The themed brunch takes its name from Tampere Filharmonia’s Afternoon of Fauns chamber music series, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year.

The brunch served by Tampere Hall Restaurants is paid, but all other Filharmonia Day’s programme activities during the day are free of charge.
