A versatile and dynamic orchestra the local audience loves

Comprising 97 musicians, the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra is one of Scandinavia’s foremost symphony orchestras. Founded in 1930 and maintained by the City of Tampere since 1947, the orchestra is based at Tampere Hall, the largest conference and concert centre in the Nordic countries. As a workplace community, the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra is diverse and the most international within the City of Tampere organisation.

The orchestra promotes cultural education and accessibility to music through its pedagogical activities. Each season, it organises several free concerts and rehearsal visits for school groups, reaching around 20,000 children and young people.

The Tampere Philharmonic’s Afternoon of Fauns chamber music series has offered unforgettable concert experiences since 1996. Held approximately once a month, these concerts showcase chamber ensembles formed by the orchestra’s musicians in the Small Auditorium of Tampere Hall. The series is strongly musician-driven: programmes and performers are chosen based on the musicians’ own suggestions and initiatives.
