Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra’s 95th anniversary year continues with Park Concert—experience it live in Sorsapuisto

TPO's 95th anniversary year continues, and the orchestra is now inviting 95 music lovers to its autumn concerts—for free. The first batch of VIP concert cards will be hidden around the Sorsapuisto park and inside Tampere Hall during the annual Park Concert on Saturday, August 9, 2025.

Park Concert marks the beginning of TPO’s autumn season, with a program that sets the tone for the upcoming concerts—full of emotion and musical love stories. Unlike previous years, the concert will not be televised, making the live experience in Sorsapuisto truly unique.

The evening opens with Skylines, a fanfare by the season’s featured composer Sebastian Fagerlund. The program includes beloved opera and ballet pieces, such as:

Edvard Grieg: Morning Mood and In the Hall of the Mountain King from Peer Gynt
Oskar Merikanto: Päivyt paistaos
Antonín Dvořák: Song to the Moon from Rusalka
Jean Sibelius: Selections from The Tempest orchestral suites
Giacomo Meyerbeer: Catherine’s flute aria from L’Étoile du Nord
Sergei Prokofiev: Montagues and Capulets from Romeo and Juliet
Pyotr Tchaikovsky: Waltz from Sleeping Beauty and Pas de Deux from The Nutcracker
Erkki Melartin: Butterfly Waltz and I Walk the Forest Paths
Erna Tauro: Höstvisa (Autumn Song), lyrics by Tove Jansson
Maurice Ravel: Boléro

The concert lasts approximately 90 minutes. Refreshments—both hot and cold drinks, as well as sweet and savory snacks—will be available in the park. Restaurant Tuhto will extend its hours from noon to 9 PM and offer takeaway options for concertgoers.

Before the orchestra takes the stage, DJ Juissi will entertain the crowd starting at 3 PM. Special ticket offers for upcoming autumn events will be available at Tampere Hall’s ticket office on the day of the concert and online on the concert weekend. In honor of its 95th birthday, the orchestra will also distribute 95 free VIP concert cards, hidden around the concert area and inside Tampere Hall. Find out more of the ticket campaign.

On the same day, from noon to 5 PM, Tampere Hall will host a family-friendly Moomin-themed birthday celebration. With thousands expected to attend, visitors are encouraged to arrive early and consider walking, cycling, or using public transport.
