Einojuhani Rautavaara: Cantus Arcticus, Concerto for Birds and Orchestra
Jean Sibelius: Finlandia
Einojuhani Rautavaara’s Cantus Arcticus is perhaps the most internationally recognized Finnish composition after Sibelius. Its bird songs soaring above the orchestra create a magical harmony between nature and humanity. Erkki Melartin, a central figure in Finnish Romanticism, celebrates his 150th anniversary. His symphonic music reflects cosmopolitan grandeur, evoking composers like Pyotr Tchaikovsky and Gustav Mahler. Tampere Philharmonic’s concertmaster Johannes Põlda will perform Sibelius's Humoresques, while Petri Nieminen's latest composition receives its world premiere. Young talent Erle Kont conducts the concert, ensuring that it is a collection of unforgettable moments.
