Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra: Santtu-Matias Rouvali & Bruce Liu
Honorary Conductor Santtu-Matias Rouvali leads a concert featuring Bruce Liu in Grieg’s Piano Concerto. The evening culminates with Schubert’s Symphony No. 9.
Santtu-Matias Rouvali, conductor
Bruce Liu, piano
Edvard Grieg: Piano Concerto in A minor, Op. 16
Franz Schubert: Symphony No. 9 in C major, “The Great”
Santtu-Matias Rouvali returns home and Bruce Liu makes his Tampere debut! The 2021 Warsaw Chopin Competition winner performs a favourite concerto where romantic passion meets Norwegian folk dances. Franz Schubert’s final orchestral work, the Great C major, is the last significant symphony of the Classical era, a masterpiece of heavenly scale, whose depth was recognised only decades later.
*Contrary to previous announcements, Grieg's Piano Concerto will be performed instead of Chopin's Second Piano Concerto.
Please note that the concert will be performed twice with the same program. The January 16 concert is included in the spring 2026 season series. The concerts include an intermission.
