Johann Sebastian Bach: Weinachts Oratorium (Christmas Oratorio): parts I-III and VI
In 1734, Johann Sebastian Bach created one of his most beautiful sacred works, the Christmas Oratorio. The oratorio’s jubilant spirit, evoking the Bethlehem stable, shines through in its melodies. Unlike the Passions, the Christmas Oratorio was performed in six parts over six days in two churches. This year, four parts will be heard in one evening, with top soloists for the arias, the Tampere Philharmonic Choir, and the Tampere Philharmonic, conducted by Matthew Halls, bringing the season to a magnificent close with one of Baroque music’s finest achievements.
