Jasdeep Singh Degun, sitar
Claude Debussy: Afternoon of the Faun
Jasdeep Singh Degun: Arya, concerto for sitar and orchestra, Finnish premiere
Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov: Scheherazade
Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov composed his crowning work, Scheherazade, in 1888. Inspired by the tales of One Thousand and One Nights, this symphonic suite takes the listener on a magical journey through the folktales of the Middle East. Only six years later, Claude Debussy made history with Afternoon of a Faun, where the elusive harmonies mark the dawn of modern music. Award-winning British composer and sitar virtuoso Jasdeep Singh Degun ties his North Indian roots to Western music. His sitar concerto Arya symbolizes the experiences of separation and unity: a lone hero challenges a group of like-minded individuals in a confrontation, culminating in a deep sense of connection.
