Co-principal flute

Malla Vivolin, Licentiate of Music, is a Tampere‑based flutist, pedagogue and occasional columnist whose artistic work centres on commissioning and premiering new Finnish classical music. In addition to performing with the Tampere Philharmonic, she is the flutist of the Grammy‑winning Uusinta Ensemble and teaches at the TAMK Music Academy. Her writings have been published in, among others, Musiikki and Muusikko magazines.
Vivolin has a particular fondness for auxiliary flutes and extended techniques, the latter of which she explores through the lenses of narrativity and embodiment in her artistic doctoral project at the DocMus Doctoral School of the Sibelius Academy, University of the Arts Helsinki. She is a passionate reader, and one of her favourite places in the city is the café at the Metso main library. Since 2024, Vivolin has been a Haynes Flutes Artist, supported by her American instrument maker.
