Riikka Marttila

Principal 1st violin

Riikka Marttila studied at the Sibelius Academy as a pupil of Kaija Saariketu and completed a master’s degree in music with excellent honors. She completed his studies in Berlin led by Mi-Kyung Lee. Influences to play have also been sought from master classes by the following teachers: Ilja Grubert, Valery Klimov, Endre Wolf and Herman Krebbers.

Marttila is currently principal 1st violin of the Tampere Philharmonic. She has studied the salons of playing Baroque violin and the practice of performing in the Baroque period in Noviya in St. Petersburg under the leadership of Kreeta-Maria Kentala in 2013-2016. She loves teaching and is currently an educator at Tampere University of Applied Sciences.

Hobbies include making silver jewelry, sewing historical clothes and baking sourdough leipä.
