Harri Miettunen

Harri Miettunen has been principal tuba player with the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra since 1989. He graduated from the Helsinki Military Music School and the Rotterdam Conservatory, where his teacher was Roger Bobo. Beyond Finland, he has performed as a soloist in Italy, Portugal, Russia (1992), and the United States. He was named Brass Player of the Year at the Lieksa Brass Week in 1993 and Musician of the Year by the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra in 1996. As a soloist, Miettunen has premiered works by Lasse Eerola (1992), Jukka Linkola (1995), Leonid Bashmakov (2001), and Lauri Porra (2023) at the Lieksa Brass Week and international tuba conferences, among others.

Harri Miettunen plays instruments that have been ergonomically modified for him. Miettunen is especially interested in Sibelius, about whom he has, for example, written a blog.
