James MacMillan’s music moves and unsettles. Despite its Latin title, A European Requiem is not merely music of mourning, but also a tribute to the layered traditions of the Catholic Mass.

James MacMillan: A European Requiem
The Catholic Requiem Mass has inspired great works offering solace for centuries, from Mozart to Verdi. Likewise, Scottish composer James MacMillan’s A European Requiem, completed in 2016, reaches directly into the deepest layers. The work is a sounding memorial to the history of the old continent and a profound homage to the ancient Requiem tradition. This moving choral piece is crowned by vocal soloists from the top ranks of the opera world. The concert will be recorded.
