TPO opens the new year with Beethoven’s Fifth

Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra launches 2027 with a New Year’s Concert at Tampere Hall on Saturday 9 January. The orchestra will be conducted by its Chief Conductor and Artistic Director Matthew Halls, with Grammy Award-winning violinist Augustin Hadelich, one of today’s most sought-after international soloists, performing Paganini’s demanding Violin Concerto No. 4.

Renowned for his exceptional technique, insightful interpretations and captivating tone, Augustin Hadelich has appeared as a soloist with leading orchestras including the Berlin Philharmonic, Vienna Philharmonic and Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, as well as many of the foremost orchestras in the United States. He received a Grammy award in 2016.

In Tampere, Hadelich takes on Niccolò Paganini’s technically demanding Violin Concerto No. 4. In the music of the celebrated composer-violinist, dazzling virtuosity is combined with lyrical, singing melodies and a strong sense of drama.

The New Year’s Concert celebrates some of the best-loved music of the Viennese classical tradition. The concert opens with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s spirited overture to the opera The Marriage of Figaro and concludes with one of the most famous works in the classical repertoire, Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5. Its iconic four-note opening sets in motion a dramatic journey towards a radiant and triumphant conclusion. With the Fifth Symphony, TPO also launches its Beethoven anniversary year, marking 200 years since the composer’s death in 1827.

The new year’s concert will be conducted by Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra’s chief conductor and artistic director Matthew Halls. The British conductor, appointed to the position in 2022, will remain in the role until the end of the 2026/27 concert season. A firm favourite with Tampere audiences, Halls is an internationally sought-after conductor who regularly works with leading orchestras across Europe and the Americas. He was recently appointed artistic partner of the Belgian National Orchestra.

Ticket sales to TPO’s New Year’s concert has started. Tickets are also currently available for orchestra’s remaining autumn 2026 concerts. TPO’s concert tickets are available from the Tampere Hall ticket office, Cultural Shop Aplodi and through Lippu.fi sales channels.

Tickets for the TPO’s spring 2027 season will go on sale around the end of November and beginning of December. The exact on-sale date will be announced shortly.
