16.6.2026 Kristian Sallinen has been appointed as the next Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra. He will begin his three-year term in August 2027, following the conclusion of British conductor Matthew Halls’s tenure. Sallinen will conduct the orchestra in a minimum of 7–8 programmes each season alongside other projects. He will be the thirteenth Chief Conductor in the Finnish orchestra’s 96-year history.

5.6.2026 Chief Conductor Matthew Halls’s final season with the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra will open with an opera-themed outdoor concert featuring tenor Tuomas Katajala as soloist. After the concert, the celebration continue in the Tampere Hall with an afterparty.

His contract includes concerts, recordings, and other special projects, as well as the artistic planning and development of the orchestra.
