Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra appoints Kristian Sallinen as the next Chief Conductor

16.6.2026 Kristian Sallinen has been appointed as the next Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra. He will begin his three-year term in August 2027, following the conclusion of British conductor Matthew Halls’s tenure. Sallinen will conduct the orchestra in a minimum of 7–8 programmes each season alongside other projects. He will be the thirteenth Chief Conductor in the Finnish orchestra’s 96-year history.

Opera music at the Park – TPO opens its autumn season in style with Chief Conductor Matthew Halls and tenor Tuomas Katajala

5.6.2026 Chief Conductor Matthew Halls’s final season with the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra will open with an opera-themed outdoor concert featuring tenor Tuomas Katajala as soloist. The traditional Park Concert, co-organised by the Tampere Philharmonic, Tampere Hall and Tampere Energy, will take place in Sorsapuisto Park in Tampere on Saturday, 8 August. Admission is free.

Vocal music and choral works at the heart of TPO's autumn season

26.5.2026 In the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra’s autumn 2026 season, the many dimensions of the human voice are interwoven with major orchestral works. Vocal music runs as a unifying thread throughout the season, with a strong emphasis on Finnish music. Alongside the orchestra, audiences will hear several choirs and vocal soloists. The 80th anniversary of Tampere Opera brings its own distinctive flavour to the programme, culminating in an Opera Gala in December.
